IBEW 1837 at Versant Power - Southern

There are approximately 130 IBEW 1837 members who work for Versant Power's Southern District at the former Bangor Hydro and Emera Maine. They represent classifications in the Customer Service Center, Electrical, Line, System Operations and Meter departments.

Following deregulation, Bangor Hydro was purchased by the Canadian firm Emera. Its electrical generation assets were sold to PPL. Bangor Hydro serves about 114,000 customers in Aroostook, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, Waldo and Washington counties in Maine. The company name was changed to Versant Power in 2020 after ENMAX Corp. of Calgary, Alberta, completed a $959 million transaction to acquire the utility.
