In portraying the historic 1968 strike of Memphis’s 1,300 sanitation workers, the award winning documentary “At the River I Stand,” brings to bear the connections between economic and civil rights. What began as a local labor fight swelled into a national symbol of the movement for economic justice for all African Americans-- a struggle waged by Martin Luther King Jr. in the final months of his life.
