Photo Contest

CameraThree Big Winners!
Great Prizes!

You don’t have to be a great photographer to take a great shot of IBEW Local 1837 members at work or engaged in a union activity, or a photo of the utility or TV industry.

Who is eligible to enter the contest?
Any active or retired member of IBEW 1837 can enter.

Who decides who wins?
Registered website members may vote online through a survey form. All IBEW 1837 members may vote by mail using a ballot that will be printed in the Fall 2009 edition of The Current. That issue will also include information about how to view the photos online on this website.

Photos like this can be entered in the contest. What can I win?
The winners will receive gift certificates for Justice Clothing, a Maine-based, employee-controlled cooperative that features union-made clothing. To see their great stuff online on their website, Click Here.

First Prize: $200 Gift Certificate

Second Prize: $125 Gift Certificate

Third Prize: $75 Gift Certificate

Where’s the fine print?
It’s not as bad as it looks. Just some rules and guidelines to make it fair and legit. Please check ‘em out:

1. The active or retired IBEW 1837 member submitting the photo must be the person who took the photograph. Members may enter more than one photo, but no more than three. Only one gift certificate will be awarded per member.
2. IBEW 1837 staff members are not eligible.
3. Photo submissions can be in color or black and white, jpeg or tiff computer files, or glossy or matte prints. Digital photos should be resolution sufficient for quality printing (minimum file size 250kb). If sending photos by email, send them to union@ibew1837.org. Please “keep the original size” and do not make the images smaller for email. Be sure to keep a copy of the original photo. Be sure to  contact the union office if you have any questions. For prints, the preferred size is 8x10. Send them to:
IBEW Local 1837 Photo Contest; 16 Old Winthrop Road; Manchester, ME 04351.
4. All submissions become the property of the IBEW Local 1837.
5. Photos must have an IBEW theme of some sort, with IBEW members at work, engaged in a union-related activity or subjects conveying images of the electrical industry or the union.
6. If members are featured in the photo, they should be identified and their permission should be obtained. If large groups are pictured, the name of the group or the purpose of the gathering (e.g. a safety committee, a union meeting, a work location) can be submitted in place of individual names.
7. Photos must be taken from September 1, 2008 to October 15, 2009 to be eligible for submission.
8. Each submission must include the member’s name, phone number and/or email address, and a short, written description of the entry and how it relates to IBEW 1837. All entries must be received no later than October 15, 2009.
9. IBEW Local 1837 reserves the right to reject any photograph(s) that it deems to be inappropriate or not suited to this contest.
10. If a large number of entries are received, IBEW Local 1837 staff will select 15 noteworthy submissions for consideration by the members of our union.
11. All ballots must be received by the close of business on November 15, 2009.
12. IBEW Local 1837 reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal value.
