IBEW 1837 at Bangor Hydro

There are approximately 130 IBEW 1837 members who work at Bangor Hydro. They represent classifications in the Customer Service Center, Electrical, Line and Meter departments. The Customer Service Center is the most recently organized, having just become part of the union in the 1980s.

Following deregulation, Bangor Hydro was purchased and is still owned by the Canadian firm Emera. Its electrical generation assets were sold to PPL. Bangor Hydro serves about 114,000 customers in Aroostook, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, Waldo and Washington counties in Maine.

Recent challenges for IBEW 1837 members at Bangor Hydro have included the transition to automated meter reading.

Members who work at Bangor Hydro attend the Unit 10 meeting.
